A Journey of Hope

Two weeks old

Baby, Life

Time really flies! Our little Aidan is two weeks old today.

Things are still going well, and I’m starting to feel more human. Having a baby is hard work, but it’s so worth it.

I’m up to 4 or 5 ounces per pumping consistently now, still pumping 10+ times per day. Our freezer is full of milk storage bags.

I have set up a Shutterfly site for his pictures:

Shutterfly is a photo printing service. I’ve created a photo book that I ordered two copies of, one for our own keeping and one for my mother-in-law. I hope they arrive soon, so we can present it to her for her birthday.

He has started making more and more faces, and the most amazing thing is when he does these spontaneous smiles. They just melt my heart. I can’t wait to see real smiles!

  1. Aidan looks so alert and aware! And he’s such a cutie. I love the pic of him and your husband in be. That’s so sweet.

Pumping 4-5 oz per session is amazing. IIRC, most women produce about 32 ounces per day max. I just attempted to verify that by Googling and found that the average child of 1-6 months consumes 25 oz/day. I would guess that means you are producing enough for an older, hungrier baby. It’s great to stockpile for when you go back to work.

I’m glad to feel you are feeling “more human.” I had a horribly hard birth and remember how good it felt when I began to get back to myself.

Also, I’m pining for a grandchild right now, and I blame you. ;-)

  2. J, yeah, a grandchild is great because you can just hand the baby off to the parents during the bad times and still get the good times. :P

  3. That’s the plan.

  4. Aww, he is so so so adorable. Yeah real, responsive smiles in the next few weeks to look forward to!

  5. It’s so much fun watching an infant develop.

  6. Thank you Bhetti. :)

  7. Small update: I was producing up to over 40oz per day for a while, now tapered back to a bit over 30oz per day. I’m pumping three times a day, with about 9-14oz per session, and it’s just barely keeping up with what he’s eating. He’s getting to be a little chubby. :P
